Dogs on board

Generally, dogs do not need to be registered in advance. If you bring your four-legged friends along in your car, they can travel free of charge. There is a small additional charge for your dog if you are travelling on foot.

Fares for dogs travelling without a car can be found here.

You may keep your dog with you on a lead on board on the open deck and in the lounge of the Sylt Ferry.

Please note:

As of 01/07/2014, the law on dogs in Denmark has been deactivated. The old law from 1872, which stipulated that stray dogs could be shot, was completely repealed in 2010, and in 2014 deactivated.

There does, however, remain a list of 13 breeds of dog that are classified as “dangerous”. These so-called “list dogs” still may not be transported to, or kept or bred in Denmark.

These are the 13 breeds of dog that count as “list dogs”:

  1. Pit Bull Terrier
  2. Tosa Inu
  3. American Staffordshire Terrier
  4. Brazilian Mastiff
  5. Dogo Argentino
  6. American Bulldog
  7. Boerboel
  8. Kangal
  9. Central Asian Ovcharka
  10. Caucasian Ovcharka
  11. South Russian Ovcharka
  12. Tornjak
  13. Šarplaninac

Holders of mongrels must be able to prove that their dog is not one of those on the list in case of doubt.
