What is happening on Sylt?

10 events for everybody

Hardly a day goes by on Sylt without events, happening and appointments. But what is really worthwhile? We have taken a close look at 10 events on Sylt.

New Year's bath

The best remedy for a New Year's hangover: the ice-cold North Sea. Be there when 120 swimmers plunge into the water on January 1st in Wenningstedt. The partly absurd outfits of the participants do not help against the cold, but definitely lifts the mood. If you want to join the swim yourself, you must register in advance at the Tourismus Service Wenningstedt.

Biikebrennen

In February, one of the most popular traditions on Sylt takes place. During the "Biikebrennen", the people of Sylt throw torches onto huge piles of wood scattered all over the island. The "Biike" consists of christmas trees from the previous christmas. With this ritual, the people of Sylt drive away winter. Afterwards, people meet in the island's restaurants to eat kale.

Family weeks on Sylt

At Easter time and during the autumn vacations, Sylt is all about kids' fun and family time. From the end of March to the end of April and in October the family weeks on Sylt take place. The program includes nature adventures, workshops, reading sessions and lots of hands-on activities. You can book and reserve many events from the comfort of your own home.

Sylt Sailing Week

The sports elite meets on Sylt. The Beach Polo World Cup, the Kitesurf World Cup and the Mercedes-Benz Windsurf World Cup are just a few top-class sporting events that take place on the island. But the most spectacular is probably the Sylt Sailing Week at the end of July/beginning of August. With the Super Sail Tour, the Sansibar Race and The Hobie World Cat, three breathtaking races are on the schedule. All around, visitors can expect a colorful music and celebration programm.

Harley-Davidson meeting

Always in June it roars on Sylt. At the traditional Harley-Davidson meeting, around 700 Harley enthusiasts gather on heavy machines. The highlight is the island tour. Those who own one of the cult motorcycles can warm up the night before at the Summertime Party in Westerland's casino.

Midsummer night on Sylt

The longest night of the year is welcomed by the people of Sylt with a night hike. They start on the first day in the evening at the tourism service Hörnum. In a festive torchlight run, you will walk around the southern tip of the island to the eastern beach. Later you celebrate in the restaurant south cape against the morning. If you still haven't had enough, you can join the bonfire with live music at Buhne 16 in the evening of the second day - for the second long night.

Sylt Open Air

There are countless concerts on Sylt. From great classical and pop events like Musik am Meer to Kampen Jazz, the Sylt Chamber Music Festival and Arias by the Sea. Our highlight: the Sylt Open Air.Next year, stars such as the Fantastischen Vier, Tim Bendzko and Alle Farben are expected. Shuttle buses are available to the concert site at Sylt Airport.

White Dinner

At the White Dinner in Kampen, everything is just right: the breathtaking beach backdrop, the sea of people dressed in white, enjoyable food. The White Dinner on Sylt is probably one of the most stylish of its kind. Take a seat at the long table, make yourself comfortable in the beach chair or uncomplicated on the picnic blanket. Now a cool drink and a snack - perfect.

A week entirely dedicated to dogs: In March and November, everything revolves around the four-legged friends in workshops, seminars and lectures. Of course, there's a lot of practice in addition to theory at the Sylt Dog Days in the form of excursions and hikes. Dogs are allowed on the beach almost everywhere at this time of year. So cast off your lines and head for the surf!

Discover the culinary delights of Sylt - at any time of the year: on the Genusspfad you visit five different restaurants. At each stop, seasonal specialties from the region land on your plate. In March, it's off to Westerland, in June to List. In the fall, the Genusspfad Sylt takes place in Hörnum. In winter, five restaurants from Keitum welcome you.
